The Reports

During the 2nd and 3rd sessions of the 61st Congress, reports on Immigration issues were issued to the Senate by the Dillingham Commission.

The immigration reports include statistical reviews, emigration and immigration conditions in Europe and other parts of the world, occupations of immigrants (including extensive coverage of immigrants in the industries of the time), living conditions, conditions of immigrants in major metropolitan and agricultural areas, the schooling of immigrant children, social and cultural organizations and societies of immigrants, and immigration legislation at the state and federal levels.

The 41 volumes of these reports were digitized and converted into PDF format under the supervision of Stanford University Libraries' Social Sciences Resource Center.

Searching the collection

While the descriptive links below will open the corresponding documents, the reports have also been indexed to allow full-text searching. Here are some tips for focusing a search on ebrary:

• Using Advanced Search, enter a word or a phrase (enclosed in quotes) of interest in the upper text box, and select Text from the drop-down menu. A listing of documents containing the word or phrase will be returned; clicking on one of them will open the document to the page containing the first occurrence of the searched word or phrase.

Note that In Advanced Search, multiple words in a text box are searched with an "and" connector; in Simple Search they are searched with an "or" connector.
