ebrary provides online distribution services to more than 180 of the world’s leading academic, professional, and trade publishers, such as Cambridge University Press, Random House, and The McGraw-Hill Companies. We support a range of revenue-generating online distribution channels, and a variety of business models, all focused on helping publishers optimize the value of their publications throughout their life-cycle–from pre-publication to well beyond their traditional shelf life. ebrary also offers its technology platform, by application service provider (ASP) license, to publishers that wish to govern distribution of their own unique content products.

No-Cost, Secure Distribution

ebrary’s technology platform supports the secure online distribution of PDF—and specifically PDF Normal–the format used almost universally in the book printing industry. Hence, for most publishers, participating with ebrary entails no direct production cost, since our file requirements are nearly identical to those of your printers.

Our technology is not based on the eBook model—that is, the delivery of an eBook file to an off-line computer–but rather on a database model, in which the user views an actual representation of the printed page (the PDF), which is streamed to the user’s web browser. ebrary retains the original file on its own secure servers at all times.
