ebrary Expands Executive Team

March 1, 2004 – Palo Alto, CA – To keep pace with a growth rate of more than 300% in 2003, ebrary, a leading provider of information distribution and retrieval services, has made a number of additions to its executive staff. The company today announced that it has appointed Chris Radcliffe to VP of Engineering, and David Fritsch to Sales Director, Eastern Region. Additionally, ebrary has promoted Tom Santos to VP of Advanced Technologies, and Chris Palma to VP of Content Development.

We are now serving customers in 41 different countries, and we continue to enhance our book database products for libraries while developing exciting new technologies,” said Christopher Warnock, CEO of ebrary. “These new additions to our team will bring ebrary the additional expertise and industry background we need to grow and sustain our current markets and pursue new opportunities.”
 

Chris Radcliffe, VP of Engineering

Radcliffe is responsible for the product development and delivery process at ebrary. He brings 20 years of strength and direct experience in ebrary’s key technologies: very large databases, Internet delivery of complex content, and digital rights management.

Prior to joining ebrary, Radcliffe led technical development and engagement management for Journeyman Software, an Internet consultancy, which he co-founded, specializing in web-enabled data warehousing and strategic/ technical assessment. He was formerly VP of Network Platform Engineering with iBEAM Broadcasting, a streaming content delivery network, leading development and deployment of advanced edge delivery services via satellite multicast as well as terrestrial networks. Radcliffe also held senior management and software development positions with Informix, NeXT and InterTrust.

He holds an M. A. in economics from The Claremont Graduate School, and a B.A. in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
 

David Fritsch, Sales Director, Eastern Region

Fritsch brings a wealth of industry expertise to ebrary, having spent his entire career in the library vendor community. Prior to joining ebrary, he held sales and business development positions at Faxon, UMI (now ProQuest), and TDNet.

At UMI, Fritsch was Canadian Area Manager, responsible for managing UMI’s distributor relationships north of the border, including the largest microform sale at that time in the company’s history. While at Faxon, he was responsible for managing the skills development of the Faxon sales force as well as contributing to product and service development. He was also the creator of the industry’s first Licensing Assistance Program in 1998, which enabled libraries to outsource the negotiation of content licenses.

Fritsch holds a degree in history from the University of Michigan.
 

Tom Santos, VP of Advanced Technologies

Formerly VP of Engineering at ebrary, Santos is now responsible for researching and developing products for new and existing markets.

With more than 13 years of experience, Santos is an expert in the fields of dynamic web development and advanced software engineering, with a deep knowledge of key technologies and software engineering issues such as code-reuse and maintainability.

Prior to joining ebrary, Santos was a key contributor to the team developing the Java Developer Kit (JDK) at Sun Microsystems. His responsibilities included developing technologies related to Java GUI toolkits as well Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) technology. Santos previously worked on Apple's Macintosh Runtime for Java (MRJ) as well as next-generation Rapid Application Development (RAD) tools. He also spent several years working at Taligent, an Apple/IBM joint venture, developing a technologically advanced object-oriented operating system. Early in his career Santos worked on a diverse set of technical projects that included a commercial object-oriented toolkit for solving complex, non-linear equations using genetic algorithms.
 

Chris Palma, VP of Content Development

Formerly Executive Director, Publisher Relations and Content Operations at ebrary, Palma is now responsible for all content product development, content licensing, and publisher relations.

Prior to joining ebrary, he spent 15 years in University Press publishing, including over a decade at Harvard University Press, where he was Sales Director. Palma held committee-level positions in both the Association of American University Presses, and the Association of American Publishers. He also worked in sales and business development for Contentguard, Inc., an emerging eBook technology company.

Palma holds a B.A. in economics from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.
