Question(s)/Issue(s):

I installed the ebrary Plug-in Reader and when I open a document, the window flickers and/or shakes and I cannot use the site. What causes this?

Solution(s):

This issue happens for a variety of reasons; it is most often observed on laptops, but can happen on desktops as well. If your laptop LCD cannot display a resolution higher than 1024x768, you may experience this issue regardless of what browser you use. Desktops tend to have this happen when the video card drivers are out of date or some form of toolbar is installed on the browser, such as the Google or Yahoo! toolbars. There are some who run into this only using Internet Explorer, especially when you have toolbars installed or you are using an ISP-branded version of Internet Explorer (a version of IE that your ISP has customized and usually installs for you; for this reason, these custom browsers are not supported).

    Based on this, these are the recommended actions:

  • Use the "vanilla" or regular version of Internet Explorer that has the blue E icon.
  • Uninstall any toolbars you have on your browser.
  • Ensure all video adaptor drivers are up to date. (Windows/Microsoft Update at times will have these, or check your display adaptor manufacturer's website)
  • If you are on a laptop with a maximum resolution of 1024x768, you can try using an external monitor if that option is available to you.
