Question(s)/Issue(s):
I am trying to access an ebrary demonstration site using a username and password authentication, but when I put in the credentials, it tells me "Unauthorized Access". How can I access the site?
Solution(s):
The authentication is done by the browser itself, and if you've ever used an ebrary password site before, especially the site you are visiting now, it is likely there will be some of those credentials stuck in the cache or cookies, and that can prevent the new credentials from properly authenticating. You should delete your cache/temporary internet files and cookies, close/quit all browsers and then try again. Instructions for specific browsers is below.
- Internet Explorer 6:
- Click the menu and choose
- On the "General" Tab, in the center there is a section called "Temporary Internet Files" with two buttons: Delete Cookies and Delete Files. Click each of them to delete these files.
- Click "OK", then close all Internet Explorer windows. Restart your computer.
- Open a new browser window and try to access the site.
- Internet Explorer 7:
- Click the menu and choose
- On the "General" Tab, in the center there is a section called "Browsing History" with a Delete... button.
- A new window will open, and under Temporary Internet Files and Cookies, click the Delete files button.
- Close all browser windows and tabs. Restart your computer.
- Open a new browser window and try to access the site.
- Firefox 2.x/3.x:
- Click on the menu and choose
- Make sure a checkmark is next to Cache, Cookies, and Authenticated Sessions and click the Clear Private Data Now.
- Close all browser windows and tabs. Restart your computer.
- Open a new browser window and try to access the site.
- Safari 2.x and up:
- Click the menu and choose
- Close all browser windows and tabs. Restart your computer.
- Open a new browser window and try to access the site.
