Question/Issue:

When I try to install the ebrary Plug-in Reader™, I get a warning about ebraryReader.xpi. What is this and what do I do to install the plug-in?

Solution:

The file ebraryReader.xpi is an automated installer for the Mozilla Firefox browser. Sometimes your security settings in Firefox will simply pop up with a box that tells you that the ebraryReader.xpi is trying to run, and will make you wait about five seconds before you can click th Install button.

Depending on your security settings, Firefox may display a plugin security warning at the top of the page and refuse to download the plugin. If this happens, you must:

  1. Click the Edit Options... button.
  2. Click Allow to add site.ebrary.com to the list of trusted sites.
  3. Click OK to update your options.
  4. Click on Download ebrary Reader for Windows Now again to download the Reader.
  5. Once the plugin downloads, click the Install Now button to complete installation.

If the issue persists or you do not see the plug-in install warning, then you should perform these steps before trying to install the plug-in again:

  1. Click the Tools menu, then choose Options.
  2. Click on the Content button (Security button in version 2.0 and up).
  3. Where it says "Warn me when web sites try to install extensions or themes", click the button Exceptions.
  4. On the next window, where it says "Address of Web site", type in:

    *.ebrary.com

and click the Allow button. Then click Close.
  5. Click OK to close the Options window.
