EZproxy and ebrary now support Single-Sign-On for improved user experience.
Single-Sign-On provides several advantages:
- Automatically creates a bookshelf for a user — the user does not need to create individual ebrary bookshelf themselves
- Supports on-campus user access without login. This configuration change allows users on campus to be authorized based on IP range, and off-campus users would receive the standard proxy login prompt.
- Improved performance - user access ebrary directly following sign-in; reducing
latency and traffic through your network
- No change to remote user management
- Allows ebrary to limit individual user access if needed. (This would be used in cases of abusive activity to the site. Make sure your users read the Terms of Service!)
- Subnet usage report would provide the users subnet
Important Changes You Need to Know
- Each user bookshelf is tied to their EZproxy login
- Previously created bookshelves will have to be migrated to the new automatic bookshelf. See the FAQ section below for more detail.
The changes take very little time to complete and can be scheduled for a time
that will be convenient for you. ebrary support and the ezproxy administrator
can set up a meeting in a variety of mediums (email, phone, IM, Skype, etc)
You will need to ensure you have EZProxy version 3.6c or newer for this to
function.
The Process
- Contact ebrary Support to schedule the transition.
- Email support@ebrary.com
- Provide IP address from EZproxy
- Go to your EZproxy Administration page and select "View your IP address "
- Provide some possible times you are available to schedule transition.
- Alter ezproxy.cfg
Add the following:
- Option ebraryUnencodedTokens
- ebrarySite channelname
Your channel name would be the identifer as shown in your ebrary URL: http://site.ebrary.com/lib/channelname;
hence if your channel name is "yourlib", you would use
ebrarySite yourlib
- Restart your EZproxy server and inform ebrary Support
- ebrary Support will then add other necessary components to your site configuration
and let you know when you can test it.
- Once you receive this confirmation, test and make sure that the new login configuration is functioning.
FAQ for existing customers:
How do these changes affect existing bookshelves?
Previously existing bookshelf data will need to be migrated to the users newly created account bookshelf.
ebrary will post a notice in your right-hand frame (home page) and process migration on a case by case basis. Any questions or concerns can be sent to your sales representative or to support@ebrary.com

Can users have multiple bookshelves?
Once transition is completed, all bookshelf activity will associate with the user's EZproxy login. There can be only one EZproxy login per bookshelf account.
Migration of mulitple previously existing ebrary bookshelves is possible.
