How are these "most popular" packages created?

As a first step, we narrowed our selection of purchase-only content to titles that have been purchased by more than 10 institutions, providing “perceived institutional value.” These are the titles that acquisition librarians have chosen for their institutions’ collections.

We then further refined the selection in two different ways:

  1. We created a list of titles that have been purchased and used by the patrons of the purchasing institution.
  2. We then also created a list of titles that received greater than the average transactions per end-user session, calculated by page views, copies, and prints.

We then compared the two lists to determine which titles had the highest usage per institution AND the highest transaction averages per session. These “Most Popular” lists represent the top books that meet the publisher’s minimum orders for two of the publishers participating in our Publisher Half-Off Sale. These are the top titles that get used within ebrary and they are all, when purchased together, 50% off list price!
