The Economic Downturn and Libraries: Findings from CIBER's Global Library Survey

Saturday, January 16, 10:30am to 12pm, Whittier Room at the Boston Park Plaza In Fall 2009, more than 800 academic, public, government, and other libraries completed CIBER’s global survey that concerns challenges, trends, and best practices in tough economic times. Join us as Dr. Allen McKiel, Dean of Library and Media Services at Western Oregon University, leads an interactive presentation of the final results. We invite you to discuss what the findings mean for libraries and possible responses and solutions. Participants will receive a complimentary copy of the full report prior to the session. Click here.
Technology Showcase: "What Can You Do With a Word?" Monday, January 18, 10:40am to 11:10am, in the "Two If By Sea" Theater at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center

While many people think of digital information in terms of entire documents, chapters, and even paragraphs within documents, gaining vast amounts of relevant knowledge can actually begin with a single word.

During this presentation, ebrary CEO Christopher Warnock will demonstrate its InfoTools technology and show how by selecting any word or phrase in a document, end-users can instantly access relevant information across any number of sources such as books, maps, biographies, dictionaries, and more. A single word becomes its own information portal.

Participants will also learn how they can customize InfoTools to extend the value of their existing electronic resources as well as use this technology for their own digitized materials.

None required.
