ebrary offers libraries a wide variety of models for acquiring e-books from leading publishers. We are also the only e-book vendor that licenses our platform under a Software as a Service (SaaS) model.
All titles in the ebrary platform are seamlessly integrated and include powerful tools for doing research quickly and efficiently.
Overview of Models
Subscription
Pioneered by ebrary over a decade ago, this model presents a very affordable way for libraries to acquire a breadth of e-books in single and multi-disciplinary subject areas. All ebrary subscription databases offer simultaneous, multi-user access and continue to grow throughout the term at no additional cost. Subscription pricing is based on the number of end-users.
ebrary’s Academic Complete™ with DASH!™, recently named to the CHOICE OAT List, is undoubtedly the best value in the industry with over 70,000 e-books.
Purchase (Perpetual Archive)
Under this model, libraries may pick and choose titles (included many front-list) or discounted Starter Packs that they may archive in perpetuity. Pricing per title is at publisher list price for single-user access, and 150% of list price for unlimited multi-user access where available.
Patron Driven Acquisition
Patron Driven Acquisition (PDA) ensures that e-books get used since purchases are triggered based on usage by end-users. Once titles are triggered, the library owns a perpetual archive.
ebrary offers the most generous triggers of any e-book provider.
Libraries may select their collection of PDA-eligible titles, refining by subject, publisher, price, date and other key parameters. Profiles and notifications can be created and modified on-the-fly.
Libraries may also choose Short-Term Loans in conjunction with PDA for mediation.
Short-Term Loans
ebrary is the first e-book vendor to offer loans that are only triggered based on usage! Currently in beta, this groundbreaking model provides libraries with all of the benefits of traditional short-term loans with the added advantage of only paying if titles are used.
Libraries may utilize Short-Term Loans as a standalone cost-saving service, or in conjunction with Patron Driven Acquisition as an additional layer of mediation before titles are triggered for purchase.
Short-Term Loans are available for one or seven day periods. When the loan expires, libraries receive a notification and are given a number of flexible options including purchasing the title, making it available for purchase through Patron Driven Acquisition, or offering another Short-Term Loan. Libraries may offer up to three loans per title.
E-approvals
Libraries may choose to automatically purchase ebrary e-books based on a profile established by the library with YBP’s approval system.
Software as a Service (SaaS)
Libraries, publishers, and other organizations may license the ebrary platform to distribute their own digital content online. ebrary’s SaaS is ideal for publishers that wish to distribute their own e-books, under their own brand, leveraging ebrary’s flexible acquisition models and powerful research technology. It is also a cost-effective, hassle-free alternative to institutional repository systems.
