ebrary offers a wide variety of models that enable libraries to acquire ebooks strategically. By diversifying models, libraries can achieve the greatest return on investment.
Overview of Models
Pioneered by ebrary over a decade ago, this model presents a very affordable way for libraries to provide a base collection of ebooks in single and multi-disciplinary subject areas. All ebrary subscription databases offer simultaneous, multi-user access and continue to grow throughout the term at no additional cost. Subscription pricing is based on the number of end-users.
All of our subscription collections offer the unique ability to upload and integrate their own digital content on the ebrary platform with DASH! ™ (Data Sharing, Fast).
Patron Driven Acquisition (PDA) is an ideal way increase access to vast numbers of titles of the institution’s choice, and only purchase if they are used. Once titles are triggered, the library owns a perpetual archive.
ebrary offers the most generous triggers of any ebook provider.
Libraries may select their collection of PDA-eligible titles, refining by subject, publisher, price, date and other key parameters. Profiles and notifications can be created and modified on-the-fly.
Libraries may also choose Short-Term Loans in conjunction with PDA for mediation.
Under this model, libraries may pick and choose titles (included thousands of front-list titles) or discounted Starter Packs that they may archive in perpetuity. Pricing per title is at publisher list price for single-user access, and 150% of list price for unlimited multi-user access where available.
ebrary is the first ebook vendor to offer loans that are only triggered based on usage! This model provides an ideal way to affordably support any program, no commitment to purchase.
Libraries may utilize Short-Term Loans as a standalone cost-saving service, or in conjunction with Patron Driven Acquisition as an additional layer of mediation before titles are triggered for purchase.
Short-Term Loans are available for one or seven day periods. When the loan expires, libraries receive a notification and are given a number of flexible options including purchasing the title, making it available for purchase through Patron Driven Acquisition, or offering another Short-Term Loan. Libraries may offer up to three loans per title.
Libraries may choose to automatically purchase ebrary ebooks based on a profile established by the library with YBP’s approval system.
Libraries, publishers, and other organizations may license the ebrary platform to distribute their own digital content online. ebrary’s SaaS is ideal for publishers that wish to distribute their own ebooks, under their own brand, leveraging ebrary’s flexible acquisition models and powerful research technology. It is also a cost-effective, hassle-free alternative to institutional repository systems.
