What are the trends and issues that impacted your decision to subscribe to ebrary?
A greater number of online courses are being offered by our institution, including many full degree programs. Plus, an e-companion accompanies all courses on-campus. A library is where people expect to go for books—either the physical space or online. For online students, I believe it's worth trying to approximate the learning environment that a bricks and mortar library provides as a way to build community. ebrary books are cost effective, easy to add to the catalog, and easy to access and use remotely.
What issues or problems has ebrary addressed at your library?
ebrary has made it very easy to add e-book MARC records to our catalog, making the titles that much more accessible to students. Students can use them without worrying about checking them out, returning them, or paying an overdue fine!
What do you and your end-users like best about ebrary's technology?
ebrary is pretty intuitive and easy to access.
What is your favorite InfoTools feature?
I like being able to highlight text and make virtual notes to refer to later. It’s like being able to write in the margins of a library book without having to damage it (and pay a fine).
What do you and your patrons like best about ebrary's content?
There is a wide range of topics, in some cases covering areas of our curriculum that don't get a lot of attention otherwise.
How does ebrary compare to other digital resources at your library?
We use other e-book vendors, but if I were to choose one interface I would pick ebrary.
