What trends impacted your
decision to subscribe
to ebrary? |
• |
Increasing content was our primary goal, and increasing access was secondary. For us, there is no other way we could have added 21,000 titles (when we first subscribed) in one day (or one year!). ebrary’s academic collection is the single best electronic monograph purchase a small academic library can make. The results are almost instantaneous! |
| What issues or problems has ebrary addressed at your library? |
• |
ebrary solves a number of problems, particularly budget constraints. Although ebrary is an annual purchase, the license would take many years to equal the purchase of the titles in the collection. ebrary also provides our students with whenever/wherever access and alleviates the need for extra storage space. Additionally, because ebrary is a hosted solution, there is no overhead or processing required. |
| What do you and your patrons like best about ebrary’s technology? |
• |
We like ebrary’s on-and off-campus, 24/7 access to excellent books. |
| What is your favorite InfoTools feature? |
• |
My favorite InfoTools feature is Define! I want a define feature at my fingertips for print books. My second favorite feature is the ability to full-text keyword search one or many titles. |
| What do you and your patrons like best about ebrary’s content? |
• |
We like a number of things about ebrary’s content including the academic nature of most of the collection; the number of edited books containing excellent authored chapters; and the specificity of many titles, especially in areas where we do not collect heavily. |
| |
• |
ebrary also allows us to offer in-depth content for subjects we don’t normally cover because our primary mission is curricular support. If courses aren’t offered in a specific area, we do limited collecting. However, just because there isn’t a course in European history doesn’t mean a student won’t want to do a research paper on Napoleon. |
| How does ebrary compare to other digital resources at your library? |
• |
By any measure, ebrary is a good fit for our library. We have a small collection (approximately 100,000 print titles), and there is hardly a keyword search in the catalog that doesn’t return one or more ebrary titles. ebrary is very visible to our patrons because we do not have a large print collection. |
