Giovale Library, Westminster College
FTE 2094 Type Academic (4-year) Location Salt Lake City, Utah, USA ebrary subscription Academic Complete™ Implementation date December 2002 “ebrary's easy access from anytime/anywhere has encouraged students to use this resource over Google (or any other search engine) while working on their papers and projects from home. With ebrary, instructors can expand their supplemental reading lists with a rich collection of books and other documents that are always available and can be accessed by more than one student at a time.”
– Hiltraut (Hildy) Benham,
Public Services Librarian at Westminster CollegeTo keep pace with the growing number of students who are now relying on the Internet to conduct research, Westminster College is subscribing to ebrary’s Academic Complete, an online searchable database of more than 10,000 full-text books, reports, maps and other authoritative documents from over 150 leading academic, professional and trade publishers.
“I believe digital resources are the way of the future,” says Benham. “Worldwide libraries, museums and government agencies are digitizing documents. These resources become globally available and present great opportunities for research and cross-cultural understanding.”
According to Jupiter Research, there are currently more than 15.2 million students online in the U.S. alone, and that number is expected to exceed 16.4 million by 2007.
With Academic Complete, any number of Westminster students can now simultaneously access a rich collection of academic titles at any time, from any Internet enabled computer. The vast majority of ebrary’s titles have never before been available online.
“We find that ebrary’s current content fits well into our curriculum,” Benham adds. “It contains an excellent selection covering a broad variety of topics.”
Key benefits: • Relevant and current content meets Westminster’s curriculum needs • ebrary titles are always available, never checked out. • ebrary InfoTools allow cross-reference between Academic Complete, other digital databases within the library and resources on the Web • Easy-to-use interface benefits students and staff • Westminster students like ebrary’s 24/7 , remote access • Students benefit from advanced search capabilities, highlights, annotations and bookmarks
